Top Hospitals in Thailand for Health Check-Ups

Ranked for the depth of the screening programme and what stands behind it. The hospitals with dedicated check-up centres, in-house imaging and laboratories, and specialists on site to follow up an unexpected finding lead, with accredited options in Phuket, Chiang Mai and Hua Hin for patients who want to combine a check-up with a stay.

1. Bumrungrad International Hospital

Best forComplex and multi-specialty international care

Bumrungrad is where international patients go when they want certainty for serious, complex care, not just convenience. JCI-accredited since 2002, staffed by over 1,200 physicians, and built around a dedicated medical coordination office that handles everything from your first consultation to your flight home.

For a serious or complex diagnosis, this is the hospital that gives you the deepest specialist bench and the most heavily credentialed doctors in the region. Over 200 of its physicians hold international board certifications from the US, UK, Australia, Japan, or Germany, and the sheer volume of complex cases it handles means few conditions fall outside its experience.

2. Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital

Best forInternational patients and families wanting an accredited full-service hospital

Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital

Samitivej Sukhumvit is one of Bangkok's most established private hospitals, JCI-accredited and part of the BDMS network, Thailand's largest private healthcare group. It is best known for paediatrics and family medicine and runs a long-standing Japanese Medical Center, with Japanese patients making up around 40% of its foreign patients.

This is the Bangkok hospital to choose if you are travelling as a family, and especially with a child who needs care. Its International Children's Hospital was the first private children's hospital in Thailand and fields more than 100 paediatric specialists, a depth of dedicated child and newborn medicine that the larger flagship hospitals do not match.

3. Phyathai 2 International Hospital

Best forHealth check-ups and specialist follow-up in Bangkok

Phyathai 2 International Hospital

Phyathai 2 International Hospital opened on Phaholyothin Road in 1987 and is the flagship of the Phyathai Hospitals Group. Its Health Promotion Center runs health check-up programmes by age and sex, from compact annual screens to executive-style packages with cardiac imaging and cancer markers, and the hospital publishes prices for several of them. Behind the check-up service sits a full 550-bed general hospital, so any finding can be followed up by specialists in the same building, with an international team to coordinate the visit.

Phyathai 2 is a sensible choice for a health check-up in Bangkok because it combines a dedicated screening centre with a large accredited general hospital. It holds Joint Commission International accreditation and Thailand's Advanced HA certification, and it publishes package contents and prices on its own site, which makes like-for-like comparison easier than at hospitals that only quote on request. Its premium programmes include tests such as CT coronary artery calcium scoring, bone density, mammography and tumour markers, and abnormal results can be referred straight to the hospital's heart, digestive or cancer specialists.

4. BNH Hospital

Best forWomen's health, orthopaedics, and spine patients

BNH Hospital

BNH is one of the longest-established private hospitals in Thailand, tracing its origins to an 1898 nursing home for foreign residents of Bangkok. Today it is a JCI-accredited, HA-certified hospital on Convent Road in Silom, with particular strengths in women's health, orthopaedics, and spine care, and a dedicated international patient team for visitors from abroad.

BNH suits the patient who wants an accredited hospital that still feels personal rather than industrial. As a mid-sized hospital it is a fraction of the size of the Sukhumvit flagships, so care tends to feel more contained and less like moving through a large institution, without giving up the international accreditation or specialist depth that matter for treatment abroad.

5. Bangkok Hospital Phuket

Best forPatients who want a full general hospital in Phuket

Bangkok Hospital Phuket

Bangkok Hospital Phuket was the first hospital in southern Thailand to earn JCI accreditation, back in 2009, and today it is accredited by Thailand's Healthcare Accreditation Institute. Part of BDMS, Thailand's largest private hospital group, it pairs full general-hospital infrastructure (emergency, intensive care, cardiac, surgery) with an international patient team that handles interpreters, transfers, and documentation for travellers.

The real reason to pick this hospital is what happens if a procedure or a holiday goes wrong rather than to plan. As the principal private hospital for Phuket and the surrounding Andaman provinces, it puts accredited theatres, an on-site emergency department, and intensive care behind whatever you come in for, the kind of backup a standalone island clinic simply cannot offer.

6. Chiangmai Ram Hospital

Best forPatients who want a full-service general hospital in northern Thailand

Chiangmai Ram Hospital

Chiangmai Ram was the first hospital in northern Thailand to earn Joint Commission International accreditation. Part of the Ramkhamhaeng Group, it pairs around 350 inpatient beds with specialist heart, orthopaedic, neurology and cancer centres, a dedicated international patient department, and a city-centre location under ten minutes from the airport.

For anyone set on staying in the north rather than travelling to Bangkok for care, this is the option that avoids dropping down to a small clinic. It is the largest private hospital in the region and puts full-hospital backup behind you, overnight monitoring, on-site diagnostics, and emergency cover on hand the moment a case turns complicated, which a standalone facility cannot match.

7. Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin

Best forHealth check-ups combined with a Hua Hin stay

Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin

Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin opened on 6 April 2011 as the 19th hospital in the Bangkok Hospital network and the first facility in western Thailand owned and managed by Bangkok Dusit Medical Services. It is a compact, five-storey hospital with 64 beds on Phetchakasem Road, a short drive from Hua Hin's beaches and resorts. For international visitors, its main draw is the Health Promotion Center, which offers check-up programmes tailored by age and gender, so a full health screening can fit into a few days by the sea.

The trade-off is depth. The hospital runs heart, bone and joint, GI and liver, and brain and neurovascular departments, but it is a fraction of the size of the flagship BDMS hospitals in Bangkok, and its English site does not publish procedure volumes or outcome data. Complex or high-acuity cases, such as major cardiac or cancer surgery, are likely to be better served in Bangkok, around three hours away by road. The hospital also does not itemise its check-up tiers online, so you will need to ask for the contents and price of each programme before booking.

What sets a strong check-up centre apart

Look for a dedicated check-up centre rather than a screen run through the general outpatient clinic, with on-site imaging and an in-house laboratory so most results come back the same day. Just as important is who reviews them: a doctor should go through the report with you in person, and specialists should be on hand if something needs a closer look before you fly home.

Why the ranking leads with the Bangkok hospitals

Bumrungrad and Samitivej run two of the most established check-up centres for international patients in Thailand, and Phyathai 2 and BNH offer accredited screening at more moderate prices. Outside Bangkok, Bangkok Hospital Phuket and Chiangmai Ram cover the south and north, while Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin suits patients who want to screen and then rest by the sea. For a routine check-up any of them is a sound choice; if you already have symptoms or a family history to investigate, favour a larger Bangkok hospital with the widest specialist cover.

Common questions

For the most comprehensive executive screening and the widest specialist follow-up, Bumrungrad and Samitivej lead in Bangkok, with Phyathai 2 and BNH as accredited options at more moderate prices. If you want to combine a check-up with a holiday, the BDMS hospitals in Phuket and Hua Hin run their own check-up programmes. Tell us what you want screened and we will suggest the package that fits.

Basic packages at private hospitals typically start from around ฿3,000 to ฿8,000, executive programmes run from roughly ฿13,000 to ฿35,000, and premium screens with cardiac imaging and cancer markers can exceed ฿60,000. Each hospital publishes its own packages and they change through the year, so confirm the current price and what is included before you book.

Most check-ups take around three to five hours on a single morning, after fasting overnight. Many results are ready the same day for a review with the doctor, while some specialist tests take a day or two, so plan at least two days in the city.

At a full-service hospital the reviewing doctor can refer you to a specialist in the same building, often the same or next day, for further tests or a treatment plan. Take your full report home with you so your own doctor can follow up.
