Our Assessment of Chiangmai Ram Hospital
For anyone set on staying in the north rather than travelling to Bangkok for care, this is the option that avoids dropping down to a small clinic. It is the largest private hospital in the region and puts full-hospital backup behind you, overnight monitoring, on-site diagnostics, and emergency cover on hand the moment a case turns complicated, which a standalone facility cannot match.
The trade-offs are practical. Chiang Mai handles lower international patient volumes than Bangkok, so the breadth of subspecialty teams and the depth of dedicated foreign-patient infrastructure are narrower than at the largest Bangkok hospitals. Some highly subspecialised work can still be referred to or compared against larger Bangkok centres.
For patients who specifically want to be treated and recover in Chiang Mai, or who value a hospital-grade safety net over a smaller standalone facility, Chiangmai Ram is a sound, well-accredited choice.

About Chiangmai Ram Hospital
Chiangmai Ram Hospital opened in 1993 and is part of the Ramkhamhaeng Group, one of Thailand's largest private hospital networks. With a capacity of around 350 inpatient beds, it is the largest private hospital in northern Thailand and functions as a full-service general hospital.
Care is organised into specialist centres and departments covering cardiology and cardiac care, orthopaedics, neurology, general and specialist surgery, oncology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and preventive health screening, supported by a team of full-time specialists alongside visiting consultants. In 2009 it became the first hospital in northern Thailand to receive Joint Commission International accreditation, the international benchmark for hospital quality and patient safety.
The hospital invests in current clinical technology, including digital imaging with a picture archiving and communication system (PACS), pharmacy automation, and operating theatres with infection-control systems. A dedicated international patient department supports foreign visitors with interpretation, coordination, and travel assistance, and the hospital offers an international ward alongside its standard and deluxe inpatient rooms. Chiangmai Ram sits in the Suthep area of central Chiang Mai, close to the old city and roughly two miles from Chiang Mai International Airport.

How We Evaluated Chiangmai Ram Hospital
Our hospital profiles are independently researched by our editorial team. No hospital can pay to be listed here, ranked higher or reviewed favourably. Here is what we assessed for Chiangmai Ram.
These checks are desk-based. We verify against the issuing bodies' registers and the hospital's own published materials rather than a hospital-arranged visit, and no hospital has any say in what we publish. Read the full methodology.
We verified the hospital's JCI accreditation through its own published records, and we flag that accreditation cycles need to be reconfirmed before booking. We could not confirm Hospital Accreditation Thailand or ISO certifications from the hospital's published pages this time, so we have not listed them.
We confirmed the hospital operates genuine specialist centres and departments, including cardiac, orthopaedic, neurology, and oncology care, rather than listing specialties in name only.
We checked that the hospital runs a dedicated international patient department with interpretation and coordination support, not just a translated website.
We assessed the value of treatment being delivered inside a general hospital of around 350 beds with on-site diagnostics, intensive care, anaesthesia, and overnight care.
We sought to verify the board credentials of individual specialists and surgeons. We could not independently confirm published board credentials for named clinicians at the time of review, so we have not listed individual doctors. Confirm your treating clinician's credentials directly with the hospital.
We note whether the hospital provides itemised quotes covering specialist fee, hospital fee, anaesthesia, diagnostics, and medication, and we advise patients to request one before committing.
How we make money. Hospitals cannot pay for placement, ranking or a favourable review anywhere on this site. We earn a coordination fee from the hospital only when you choose to book through us, and it never changes your price. That conflict is why we publish our evaluation criteria and sources on every profile, and link accreditations to the issuing bodies.
If you believe any information on this profile is inaccurate or outdated, please contact our editorial team and we will check it against the source.
