Our Assessment of Bangkok Hospital Siriroj
Phuket has two hospitals inside the BDMS group, and this is the smaller of the pair, a separate facility from the larger Bangkok Hospital Phuket in the town centre. Bangkok Hospital Siriroj holds Joint Commission International accreditation and works as a general private hospital with a spread of specialist clinics rather than a high-acuity tertiary referral centre. For a patient who wants an accredited, group-backed hospital on the island for general or moderate specialist care, it is a credible option that sits a step below the flagship BDMS hospitals in Bangkok.
The trade-off is depth. Its centres cover cardiology, neurology, orthopaedics, cancer care and general surgery, but the most complex, high-acuity cases are often better matched to a larger tertiary hospital with wider subspecialist cover and heavier equipment. The hospital does not publish a bed count or detailed outcome data on its English site, so verification rests mainly on its accreditation and its BDMS membership rather than on published results.
It suits international visitors and expatriates already in Phuket who need reliable general or specialist hospital care without travelling to Bangkok, and who value JCI accreditation, a large hospital group behind the facility, and a multilingual patient service. Anyone facing a rare or highly complex diagnosis may still want to compare it against the tertiary hospitals in Bangkok before deciding.

Accreditations, Verified
Bangkok Hospital Siriroj states that it is accredited by Joint Commission International, the most widely recognised international hospital standard. We verified this through the hospital's own published records, including its announcement of a third JCI accreditation following an on-site survey in 2019. We have listed only the accreditation we could confirm and have not added standards the hospital does not publish.
JCI Accredited
Joint Commission International. The hospital reports achieving JCI accreditation for a third time, following an on-site evaluation in November 2019. JCI is the leading global standard for hospital quality and patient safety. We were unable to independently retrieve a current listing from the JCI online directory, so this rests on the hospital's own published certification records.

About Bangkok Hospital Siriroj
Bangkok Hospital Siriroj was founded in 1982 as the first private hospital on Phuket. Over its history it has been known as Phuket International Hospital and as Siriroj International Hospital, and it now trades as Bangkok Hospital Siriroj. It is operated by Bangkok Phuket International Hospital Co., Ltd. and forms part of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services, the largest private hospital network in Thailand, which the hospital describes as covering more than 48 hospitals nationwide.
The hospital provides care across more than 30 medical and surgical specialties, organised into 18 dedicated centres. Its published services include 24-hour emergency and trauma care, an intensive care unit, 3D laparoscopic surgery, family medicine, dermatology and wellness services. Reported activity runs to between 400 and 500 outpatient visits a day, with patients drawn from around 120 countries.
Among its clinical units are the Phuket Cancer Institute, a combined general medicine, cardiology and neurology clinic, a surgery and orthopaedic clinic, and a women's centre. The cardiology and neurology service covers cardiovascular disease, stroke, epilepsy and Parkinson's disease, with emergency neurological care available around the clock, while the orthopaedic service offers joint replacement and spinal surgery alongside non-surgical treatment. The hospital also hosts the Phuket Plastic Surgery Institute, though that sits outside the scope of this general-care profile.
Bangkok Hospital Siriroj should not be confused with Bangkok Hospital Phuket, the larger BDMS hospital in the town centre. Both belong to the same group but operate as distinct hospitals at different sites on the island. As a regional private hospital, its standing rests on its accreditation, its group affiliation and its published services rather than on a long record of published outcomes.

Common Questions About Bangkok Hospital Siriroj
What patients typically want to know before choosing this hospital
How We Evaluated Bangkok Hospital Siriroj
Our hospital profiles are independently researched by our editorial team. No hospital can pay to be listed here, ranked higher or reviewed favourably. For Bangkok Hospital Siriroj we were careful to verify only what the hospital publishes on its own site and in its certification records. Here is what we assessed.
These checks are desk-based. We verify against the issuing bodies' registers and the hospital's own published materials rather than a hospital-arranged visit, and no hospital has any say in what we publish. Read the full methodology.
We confirmed the hospital's JCI accreditation through its published records, including its third accreditation after a November 2019 survey, and did not list standards it does not publish.
We reviewed the hospital's dedicated centres and clinics, including its cancer institute, cardiology and neurology clinic, surgery and orthopaedic clinic, and its emergency and trauma cover.
We checked that the hospital provides a dedicated international service with professional interpreters and coordinators, rather than a translated website alone.
We verified its membership of the BDMS network and its history under earlier names, and confirmed that it is a distinct hospital from Bangkok Hospital Phuket.
We noted where the hospital does not publish figures such as a bed count or outcome data, and weighed its accreditation and group backing against that limited public reporting.
How we make money. Hospitals cannot pay for placement, ranking or a favourable review anywhere on this site. We earn a coordination fee from the hospital only when you choose to book through us, and it never changes your price. That conflict is why we publish our evaluation criteria and sources on every profile, and link accreditations to the issuing bodies.
If you believe any information on this profile is inaccurate or outdated, please contact our editorial team and we will check it against the source.
